What does IVIG come from?
Plasma used in the production of IVIg comes from two origins: approximately 20 percent is from blood donors, and the other 80 percent is from plasma donors . Individual plasmas are pooled; the pool size is a minimum of 1000 donors, but may be up to 100,000 donors [5,13,14,15].
How is immune globulin made?

- Allow IVIg to reach room temperature.
- Administer directly via the bottle provided by blood bank.
- IVIg does not contain any antimicrobial preservative, therefore each bottle of IVIg must be administered within 6 hours from spiking the bottle.

Does IVIG cause immunosuppression? Although the data classifying IVIG therapies as immunosuppressing agents is not conclusive, studies do show IVIG treatments have been found to help reduce symptoms of autoimmune diseases that exhibit excessive inflammation of the body.
Can you stop IVIG?
Forty-two percent of the patients who stopped the treatment reported a clinical deterioration after suspension and had to restart IVIg. This study demonstrated that in selected cases it is possible to successfully stop the chronic IVIg treatment, even in patients who have been treated for several years.
