Can you put car oil in a 4 stroke lawn mower?

Can I use 10W40 instead of SAE 30?

10W40 does not meet the requirements for small engines. And SAE 30 is on the way out as being recomended. 10W30 & 5W30 are the recomended oils now. The reason is the additives and how well they lubricate.
